چکیده

Let h be the class number of binary quadratic forms (in Gauss's formulation). All negative determinants having some h = On ± 1 can be determined constructively: for h = 5 there are four such determinants; for h = 7, six; for A = 11, four; and for h = 13, six. The distinction between class numbers for determinants and for discriminants is discussed and some data are given. The question of one class/genus for negative determinants is imbedded in the larger question of the existence of a determinant having a specific Abelian group as its composition group. All Abelian groups of order <25 so exist, but the noncyclic groups of order 25, 49, and 121 do not occur. Positive determinants are treated by the same composition method. Although most positive primes of the form n2 — 8 have h = 1, an interesting subset does not. A positive determinant of an odd exponent of irregularity also appears in the investigation. Gauss indicated that he could not find one. |

A Characterization of the Compound Multiparameter Hermite Gamma Distribution via Gauss's Principle

We consider the class of those distributions that satisfy Gauss's principle (the maximum likelihood estimator of the mean is the sample mean) and have a parameter orthogonal to the mean. It is shown that this so-called "mean orthogonal class" is closed under convolution. A previous characterization of the compound gamma characterization of random sums is revisited and clarified. A new character...

On a problem of Eisenstein

1. Introduction. In 1844, a list of 11 open problems composed by Eisen-stein was published in Crelle's journal [7]. Among these problems, which are rather diverse in nature and precision, there are three that pertain to class groups of quadratic orders. Class groups of other orders were still unknown at that time, and Eisenstein's questions are couched in Gauss's language of quadratic forms. In...

Selberg integral involving the S generalized Gauss's hypergeometric function, a class of polynomials the multivariable I-function and multivariable Aleph-functions

ABSTRACT In the present paper we evaluate the Selberg integral involving the S generalized Gauus's hypergeometric function, a multivariable Aleph-function, the multivariable I-function defined by Nambisan et al [3] and general class of polynomials of several variables. The importance of the result established in this paper lies in the fact they involve the I-function of several variables which ...

An Efficient Numerical Method for a Class of Boundary Value Problems, Based on Shifted Jacobi-Gauss Collocation Scheme

We present a numerical method for a class of boundary value problems on the unit interval which feature a type of exponential and product nonlinearities. Also, we consider singular case. We construct a kind of spectral collocation method based on shifted Jacobi polynomials to implement this method. A number of specific numerical examples demonstrate the accuracy and the efficiency of the propos...
